Do I need a 12 Volt Battery to use my Solar Panels with my DC to AC Power Inverter?

I’m looking to hook up solar panels to my 240VAC 4500W hot water tank that I’m using to heat my basement and garage infloor system. Would I be able to connect the solar panels directly to the dc to ac power inverters? Or Do I need a 12 Volt or 24 Volt battery bank?

If you would like to use solar panels for you 240VAC hater water tank you will need a dual phase output which is not available in DC to AC Power Inverters. If you wanted to DC to AC Power Inverter to run other single phased output current devices with your solar system, you would still require a battery bank and solar charge controller. Basically the solar panels pull the solar power into them and then send electrical current to the charge controller which then regulates the voltage of that current and then sends it a power sources of the same voltage. For example you can set your charge controller to 12 volt or 24 volt to then send the charge to the 12 volt or 24 volt battery bank. This will keep your batteries charged and operate your DC to AC Power Inverter.

Many people think that can connect their solar power panels directly to their dc to ac power inverter, and take the input solar current and send it directly to the DC terminals of the power inverter and then convert into AC 120 Volt power. The problem with this is solar power is not constant level charge, depending on the amount of solar exposure the input charging current will change. Therefore you need to regulate that power and store it in more stable power source such as car or truck or marine deep cycle batteries. Depending on the amount of solar energy available you can then store the energy through your power bank. This is actually a better method of using the solar power, because if you simply were able to use the direct current then what would you do at night or during shaded periods where solar energy is not available. By using a power bank of batteries you can store your solar power for future use. DC to AC power inverter work excellent in a solar system as they are able to take low voltage current and invert it into a multi-purpose higher functioning 120 Volt standard single phase north american output current.
