Using a DC to AC Power Inverter in My Truck Cabin

Can I use a DC to AC Power Inverter to operate my TV and coffee machine in my truck cabin? My coffee machine is 14 amps and the TV and DVD player are a combined 4.4 amps. Which size inverter will I need if a dc to ac power inverter will work in my setup?

A 3000 watt 12 or 24 volt DC to 120 volt AC should work well in your system. To proper calculated the size of the inverter your require, you would need to check the power consumption of each device. If you only have the amperage draws of your electronics you need to multiply the amount of amps by 110 volts to get the wattage draw.

(Amps x Volts = Wattage)

Therefore 14 amps plus the 4.4 amps gives you a load of 18.4 amps, so you have a wattage load of 2024 watts. A DC to AC Power Inverter can operate your devices with no issues. A 3000 watt power inverter can handle a load of 25 amps so you would have some additional space to run a few other devices. Also when selecting the DC to AC Power Inverter for any system you should make sure you purchase an inverter at least 20% higher then your full load draw. Your devices should be able to run of the truck battery for an extended period of time, the major draw is the coffee machine that will not be run continuous. The TV and DVD Player have a very low continuous wattage draw so the battery should last a longtime and can be recharged by turning the engine on and using the built in alternator to recharge the truck battery. Also make sure when selecting the DC to AC Power Inverter you will use in your system select a power inverter designed to be used in mobile systems. A standard home power inverter would not last long in your truck cabin, even though most large trucks cabin are shock proof there will still be some movement. Mobile designed DC to AC Power Inverters are made to secure the interior components to avoid damage during movement.

If you find the battery connected in your truck does not power your devices long enough before going into fault, then you can connect a secondary battery to the original. You can connect as many batteries as your need all dc to ac power inverters can be used with as many batteries as you like as long as you keep the listed voltage in a parallel system.
